Remember that there are many ways to get a nursing education in the US. You should do internet research to understand your options – your choices will be different depending on the education you already have and your goal in the US. The information in this email is only about Montgomery College. Try to get a College Advisor at MC as soon as you can after applying, because they will have the most up to date information for you. The RN program is about 2 years after completing your prerequisite courses and the LPN is about 1 year after pre-requisites. RN studies require a higher level of English competency.
Step 1: Apply to Montgomery College. Go to MC campus office called ‘Raptor Central’ for help
Step 3: Activate your online student portal using your MC ID – this is where MC will send you information about your studies. After you apply you will also be able to talk with an Advisor who can give you more detailed information about how to meet your nursing education goals.
Step 5: Demonstrate English competency. Your path might be to take English classes first and then take credit classes, or you might be able to take credit classes.
Websites about English requirements: After testing, if English is not your first language, you may need to take ESL classes so that you can read, write and speak at the college level. There is a video on this page and more information on the level of English you need for college studies.
Step 6: Take prerequisites: After you have passed English competency, you can sign up for credit classes called ‘prerequisite’ classes. These are the classes that are required BEFORE you can take the actual nursing classes. The prerequisites are different for LPN and RN studies.
Websites aboutPrerequisites: Once you have been approved to take ‘credit’ classes, you can work on Nursing prerequisite classes, the required courses you take before you start nursing. These are slightly different for LPN and RN studies. RN Nursing Program information here – watch the video on this page.
